The 9:16 Manifesto

The following manifesto came from the feverish minds of two young students, who were surprised to learn that the film industry is collapsing, TV is struggling, and most of the
audience’s screen time is spent on endless doom-scrolling. They wouldn’t take it.

We are the ones who shed a tear in a dark theater.
The ones who binged, then grieved.
The ones who can’t fall in love without an imperfect hero.

We are the bridge.
The melting pot.
Stitching the old and the new.

We are the smartphone generation, raised on classic films.
We are bringing cinema back to the people.

Just as cinema moved to the small screen, Welcome to the age of the TINY screen.

The 9:16 Scene

  1. Opens with a truthful hook — no exposition.
  2. Composed for the Vertical 9:16 screen.
  3. Narrative-led. Always.
  4. Follows a protagonist.
  5. Crafts every moment with a cinematic gesture.
  6. Runs up to 90 seconds.
  7. Typography as storytelling.
  8. Fast-paced, shifting, reactive.
  9. Resolved, yet draws you back in.
  10. Made to meet the crowd.

* These are recommendations, not rules.

* Questions worth asking:
Am I engaging with reality?
Where do I meet my audience?
Why me — why now?
